It is nice to know some simple ideas like this will help farmers like me. I have been growing crops for almost 2 years now since I have retired from my desk job. To know that we should know the quality of water we are giving to our plants. It is not how the water is produce but how safe it is to the plants. Such an excellent article to learn something new.

I never knew until you mentioned that the growth of plants and richness of crops are associated with the type and components of water being used for irrigation. No wonder plant growers resort to water treatments while maintaining good sanitation in their area to reduce the loss of crops. In my case, if I were to invest in an agricultural business, I’ll make sure to get an efficient water system to supply irrigation of clean-chemical free water.

Hi Bethany,

Osmosis is the passing of a liquid through a membrane from a lesser concentration to a greater concentration.

Reverse osmosis (RO) puts pressure on the greater concentrated liquid and forces it through the membrane to the lesser-concentrated liquid, hence the term, reverse osmosis. The membrane traps particles and impurities down to 0.0009 micron, and the effluent or permeate water is very clean and free from impurities. So at its most basic level, reverse osmosis filters impurities from a liquid, namely water.
